The Minister of Health Dr Osagie Ehanire was questioned today by the members of House of Representatives on the whereabouts of the Chinese team who arrived Nigeria On the 8th April 2020, under the guise of being Chinese doctors that will share their experiences with Nigerian doctors towards addressing the increasing case of Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic and help treat officials of the Chinese company that invited them.
But to the shock of Nigerians, the Health Minister declared not knowing the whereabouts of the doctors.
the Lawmakers who have expressed dismay on how the Health Minister is handling the Covid-19 situations in the country have demanded the full details of the activities of the Chinese doctors and their whereabouts.
Prior to this, the opposition party PDP has given the Federal Government 48-hours ultimatum to declare the whereabouts of the Chinese medical team they brought in to the country. They said, "despite repeated warnings and disapprovals by our medical experts and professional bodies." Members of the APC led administration vehemently defended the invitation of the Chinese team and offered them full state protocol upon arrival, only to now turn around to disclaim the supposed experts.
They added, "More so, the minister’s statement had heightened apprehensions in the public space that the Chinese team, whose identity and activities have been shrouded in secrecy, might have been brought in by a certain cabal for another purpose outside the general public good."
The Minister of Health, who had repeatedly assured that the Chinese were brought to render medical services and training; and even went personally to receive them at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja is now being economical with the truth and playing politics with the lives of our citizens and the health safety of our nation.
In a separate motion, the lawmakers call for a probe to the status of the medical and pharmaceutical research in the fight against the covid-19 coronavirus pandemic in the country, they also expressed their dissatisfaction of the involvement of Nigerian scientists and requested that our scientists should be accorded the necessary support and funding.
